Levi Edwards Cemetery - Fancy Gap, VA
LEVI EDWARDS WAS MY GREAT-GRANDFATHER - Born May, 1816. Died October, 1900. He was buried on the Albert Tate Mtn. near the end of the Old Elk Spur Road in Fancy Gap, VA. There were only 4-5 grave stones there. Two were his babies by second wife, Virginia "Ginny" Tate Edwards. One was a son, Jesse. The land is now owned by granddaugher, Elsie "Gladys" Goins.
.
In 1998 family members found the gravesite of Levi. In 1999 I, Donna Edwards, with the help of Rodney Johnson, went to Blacksburg, VA to VA Tech. and found the Civil War Records in order to get a Stone. Rodney and I cleaned the underbrush from the graves in the summer. Rodney, his daughter-Whitney (she also is a descendent of Levi) and I went back in the fall and again cut the underbrush and larger trees. The stone was then set by Rodney, my brothers (Tim & Ted) and myself in October, 2000. With Ida(mama) and Karen Edwards( Tim's wife) watching. THIS STONE WAS SET ONE HUNDRED YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF LEVI - DIED OCTOBER 1900.
